YOGA / PILATES

Yoga and Pilates are great ways to prepare the body for dance, as well as other physical activities.  They can also be used to keep the body healthy and strengthen a body that has been sick or injured.  Enjoy making your body strong and more flexible with a variety of fun poses and exercises.

BALLET / MODERN / JAZZ

The turned out, soaring, leaping, and floating technique of ballerinas and danseur nobles is Ballet. Ballet is the foundation to all dance forms. Learning the fundamental movement vocabulary in Ballet will help you learn and enjoy the techniques both of Modern and Jazz.  In Modern you will get to explore levels, space, time, and energy in a way that ballet doesn’t.  Get ready to roll, bounce, leap, and more.   In Jazz you will use movement learned in ballet and modern while playing with rhythm while using one body part by itself or with another while it is doing something entirely different.

IMPROV & COMPOSITON & VARIATION

Ever wonder how dance pieces are made?  Learn how to make a dance or two by using movement you do every day and the dance steps you are learning in the workshop.  In variation class , learn a dance  that has already been choreographed.

FOLK DANCE

Learn folk dances from around the world.  Modern forms of dance like Ballet, Modern, and Jazz have steps that originated in folk dances.

BODY WELLNESS

An introduction to anatomy as it relates to a dancer’s moving body, muscles you used to perform dance movements, safe movement practices when doing dance and other activities, healthy mindsets and nourishment so you can have the energy to sustain your activities and reduce injury, and what should you do if you are injured or returning to activities after an injury.

DANCE VOCABULARY

Knowing what your dance terms mean and what the movements are helps you become a better dancer by understanding what your teachers are asking you to do. Learn the Ballet French terms and what they mean in English, as well, as the terminology used in both Modern and Jazz.
